What is a Stop Loss order Forex ?

Mar 29
2010

A stop loss order is an order type whereby an open position is automatically liquidated at a specific price. Often used to minimize exposure to losses if the market moves against an investor’s position. As an example, if an investor is long USD at 156.27, they might wish to put in a stop loss order for 155.49, which would limit losses should the dollar depreciate, possibly below 155.49.

Forex FAQ ?

How are currency prices determined?
Currency prices are affected by a variety of economic and political conditions, most importantly interest rates, inflation and political stability. Moreover, governments sometimes participate in the Forex market to influence the value of their currencies, either by flooding the market with their domestic currency in an attempt to lower the price, or conversely buying in order to raise the price. This is known as Central Bank intervention. Any of these factors, as well as large market orders, can cause high volatility in currency prices. However, the size and volume of the Forex market makes it impossible for any one entity to “drive” the market for any length of time.

How do I manage risk?
The most common risk management tools in FX trading are the limit order and the stop loss order. A limit order places restriction on the maximum price to be paid or the minimum price to be received. A stop loss order ensures a particular position is automatically liquidated at a predetermined price in order to limit potential losses should the market move against an investor’s position. The liquidity of the Forex market ensures that limit order and stop loss orders can be easily executed. Read the rest of this entry »

Forces In The Forex Market

Mar 29
2010

Interest rates play the foremost important role in moving the prices of currencies in the Forex market. As the institutions that set interest rates, central banks are therefore the most influential factors. Interest rates dictate flows of investment. Since the currencies are representations of a country’s economy, differences in interest rates affect the relative worth of currencies in relation to one another. When central banks change interest rates they cause the Forex market to experience movement and volatility. In the realm of Forex trading, accurate speculation of central banks’ actions can enhance the trader’s chances for a successful trade.

An increase in interest rates encourages traders to invest within that market and causes the demand for the currency to rise. As demand rises, the currency becomes scarcer and consequently more valuable. Investors are drawn to the currency, causing it to appreciate, because they will gain a higher yield on their investments, as in the Jane example. In order to purchase the country’s assets (stocks or bonds), Jane will have to convert her domestic currency to the target country’s currency also increasing demand. Conversely, a fall in interest rates discourage investors from purchasing assets in that particular economy, as the return on their investment is now smaller. The economy’s currency will depreciate as a result of the weaker demand.

Best Way To Automate Forex

Mar 27
2010

I Metatrader. have never traded a forex strategy live using any advanced automated methods. At the most, I’ve placed a limit order. Most, if not all of my experience has been with expert advisors in Metatrader.

I realize more than ever that if I could automate my strategies, this may take me to the next level of trading and keep me more involved in the market. At this point, I need the motivation. The subject of automated trading has always interested me but my issue has always been with trusting a broker and the platform with a live account using an expert advisor. Therefore I’m calling on everyone who has experience with automated trading to share your experiences.

Rich is Trading Forex Again

Mar 27
2010

So after yet another hiatus from trading forex, I just recently had my first trade in months. It was a successful one also. But the question I want to answer is, “Is this blog dead?” The answer is no. I’ve made a living over the past 3 years ducking in and out of here depending on what’s going on in my life. Sometimes I’m just too swamped at my real job, other times I just don’t feel like writing, but I always come back. The great thing is I’ve built up a lot of content over the years so a lot of it applies to the type of forex trader you’re trying to become.

So where do I go from here? I’m in the mood to start trading forex again so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m also going to talk a little about stocks. I’ve had a lot of success, believe it or not, trading the stock market in the last couple of months and I think I’ve learned some things that I could apply to trading forex. So you’ll hear me talk about some of these things also.

Where was the SNB?

Mar 27
2010

One of the clear victors of the Greek sovereign debt crisis has been the Swiss Franc, which has risen 5% against the Euro over the last quarter en route to a record high. 5% may not sound like much until you consider that the Franc had hovered around the €1.50 for most of 2009. Every time it budged from that mark, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) moved swiftly to return the Franc to its “resting spot.” So where was the SNB this time around? Read the rest of this entry »

Forex – Euro Falls vs. Dollar on Greek Problems

Mar 17
2010

Forex - EUR/USD declined rapidly today as the European aid to the troubled Greece meets new obstacles, pushing the Eurozone’s currency down against the U.S. dollar. The macroeconomic releases from United States showed some stagnation in all three indicators, reducing the market’s optimism about the global economy. EUR/USD is now trading near 1.3659.

NY Empire State manufacturing index declined from 24.9 to 22.9 in March, signaling a slightly slower rate of improvement in the sector. The forecast was at 22.0 for this index. Read the rest of this entry »
